it's been nearly a month since i blogged. sometimes i think i should abandon this little blog, but then i have moments like these where i have the urge about my so-called life. :-)
welp, I'm a year older. Last Friday (11-11-11) was my 29th birthday. And it was a great day! Actually a great weekend. JE took me to dinner and told me I'd get a gift everyday for a week. and, so far, he's done a little something for me, even when I went to Ft. Worth on Saturday. well, except for today. we were supposed to go toy shopping ;-), but he got home late for work. there's always tomorrow. anyway, i went to to ft. worth to spend time with my aunt. i was just going to go up there and hang out, but she told me she wanted to help me decorate my apartment, so we went to home decor places and found things to help me decorate my apartment. this place has finally come together. when i think about when i moved to Houston 4 years ago, I had nothing but an air mattress and now this place in Austin looks like a home. I'm so grateful for everything. i know it's just things, but man... to go from having next to nothing.
i was watching the sing.off and the groups were supposed to sing R&B songs. one of the groups chose Usher's OMG (Side note: I miss the My Boo, Confessions and Let it Burn Usher. this Lil' Freak and OMG Usher does nothing for me.) anyway, one of the group members didn't want to sing the song because it was "explicit" and it conflicted with his religious beliefs. so, they took out some of the more explicit words and did a decent job. well, they also had to sing a classic R&B song. uhm, how about they chose Let's Get It On? and the same guy didn't express discomfort with it. well, they didn't show him objecting. he wasn't singing lead, but still... you have a problem with OMG, but not Let's Get It On? oh...
well, Thanksgiving is next week and I'm not going home to Tulsa. :-( I really want to go, but it's too costly (time and money) to go for just a few days. so, i'm planning to go for at least a week at Christmas. JE and i don't know what we'll do for Thanksgiving, which means we'll probably cook here, which is what we do every week anyway. i kind of thought we would go to his friend's house. we went over there last month and had a great time. so, i would have been fine with going over there. well, apparently the guy and his wife are experiencing some serious marital problems, per her FB posts.
which leads me to my next topic: i REALLY hate when people air their relationship woes on FB. i know people can say and do whatever they want on their FB page but... a line needs to be drawn, and airing ALL your problems... smh... JE and i have been through many things, and i've never even thought about sharing it on FB and i'll only allude to them on Twitter. this blog is the only place where i open up a bit, and that's basically because no one i know in "real life" reads this blog. like, only on my blog do i have feel comfortable saying that JE and I are doing really well, but there's a part of me that's still waiting for the other shoe to drop. yeah, i know, i shouldn't do that. but, you know, in life, it always seems like if it's not one thing, it's another.
oh, my Spelman sisters and I went to Memphis the first weekend of the month. uhm, I'm in LOVE with Memphis. the people were so nice, the food was good AND.... there were LOTS OF BLACK PEOPLE. lol... i can't express to you have tiresome it is to be the only Black person in so many situations. anyway, we had a great time in Memphis and I'd love to go back again. actually, if i had the energy to move to another state again, i'd look into moving to Memphis. i think I'm just a sucker for Southern hospitality.
i know i've said this many times, but I've GOT to do something i love for a living. i'm still bored out of my mind at work. i go and do my work, but i have to feel... inspired. i wanna wake up in the morning pumped about the work for the day. when i was a teenager one of my uncles told me that most people don't like their jobs and do other things that bring them happiness. I've always rejected that's just the way life should be. i just have to figure out how to get to where i really want to be. in due time, i suppose...
until next time...
