saying goodbye...

No one is going to read this post, so this is more for me than anything else. I mean, who reads or writes blogs for fun anymore? lol... But, this is the most appropriate place for me to share this.

Almost two weeks ago I learned that someone I connected with on here, nearly twenty years ago, has departed this life. As one does, I went back to this blog (last post was almost eight years ago!) and his, taking a trip down memory lane. While the two of us stopped connecting via our blogs, we did remain in touch via other platforms over the years.

We even had a tradition of sending each other birthday gifts, something we kept up for at least 15 years, without fail. A few days before his birthday, I texted confirming that his Amazon wishlist was up to date. No response. I sent an IG message the next day. No response. I had a sinking feeling because that had never happened before.

So, I did a Google search the following day. And there it was. An obituary.

Date of death was on Monday, the day before I texted. I'd told myself on Sunday and Monday that I needed to check in and life got in the way. I knew if I didn't get the gift ordered by Tuesday, I'd run the risk of it arriving late. Turns out I was going to be too late, no matter what.

When I did the Google search, the "worst" I expected to see was that there was some sort of accident. I was not prepared for a death notification.

According to the obituary, the family is having a private service and no cause of death was listed, so I'll never know what happened. And honestly, I think that's how he'd want it. Privacy above all else.

Over the past two years, I've experienced some pretty significant losses and while the two of us weren't close, this one still hit me unexpectedly hard. Yet another person, place, and ritual that I have to say goodbye to, before I was ready.

"Blog husband," I hope that wherever you are, you are finally at peace and having the best birthday month ever. 💜
